Apple computers has created a LOT of hype over the last couple of months with speculation that it has been working on a new tablet device similar to the iPhone, but with a 10 inch screen. Well after months of waiting, the company has announced a product launch conference tomorrow ... but is it what we've been waiting for?
I have a couple of issues with the current rumours that are in circulation, such as:
The device is just a giant iPhone
If this is true, then I'm going to be VERY disappointed! Apple struck gold with its original 2G iPhone and has successfully launched its two upgrades (3G and 3GS). If the new device is going to be selling for the rumoured $800-$1000 price range, then its going to have to be able to do soooooo much more. One suggestion would be for Flash and Java applets to be installed pre-sale - if they're touting it as a serious contender to a net-book, then it needs (at the very least) to do the same as a net book (which in some cases is 75% cheaper!).
Like the iPhone, the iTablet will be mobile network specific
Oh dear god, I'll cry if this is true. I'm already stuck in an 18 month contract for the iPhone because of Apple's exclusive deal with O2 Ireland. I really want one, but how can i justify the cost of another lengthy contract on top of the premium price? What if i just want to use it on my wifi network at home?
I suppose I'll just have to wait to find out exactly what the story is tomorrow ...
The event kicks of at 1PM EST (6PM GMT) and you can follow all of the details live at techcheck.cnbc.com - their correspondent Jim Goldman will be live blogging from the audience. And keep an eye on the Apple stick price to see what investors make of it by clicking here.
